Practical payroll optimization — without polished chaos.
SalaryOps is a publication for payroll professionals who want safer and more efficient payroll operations through control, practical system understanding and down-to-earth automation.
Less payroll hassle. More control. Better operations.
Who's behind it
SalaryOps is written by Mathias — a payroll practitioner with a technical streak and a low tolerance for hassle. Not a software salesperson, not a classic consultant. More like the colleague who has actually run the payroll, found the errors, and built the controls that catch them next time.
The work sits in the gap between payroll operations and technical optimization — without losing respect for control, responsibility, and everyday reality.
What I believe
- Control before optimization. You cannot optimize a process you cannot control. Automation without control just moves errors around faster.
- Errors must become fixed controls. An error log is not an archive. It is a working tool where errors are turned into controls that prevent the next one.
- Start small with automation. The best projects start with one specific, recurring, annoying task — not with ambition to build something big and clever.
- Evaluate systems on operations, not demos. The best payroll system is the one that holds up week after week with the least possible hassle.
- Integrations must create coherence. If you are still cleaning up after the integration, it is not finished. Good integrations remove manual work — they do not just move data.
Who it's for
Payroll managers, payroll accountants, payroll specialists and HR/payroll professionals who work hands-on with payroll runs, controls, systems and data. People who are curious about automation, but skeptical of overly clever solutions — and who recognize the frustration of systems that look good in a demo but do not hold up in daily operations.
Also useful for consultants and system professionals working across European payroll platforms, n8n, APIs and payroll process optimization.
What I write about
Payroll controls, error log setup, standardized control frameworks, EU payroll advisory, integrations between HR, payroll and time registration, small n8n automations, API-based payroll flows, and reviewing payroll processes before automating them.
